Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary

It is a comparatively smaller wildlife sanctuary spread across only 55 sq km of area. It is situated on the western slopes of the Western Ghats in the northern most corner of Kerala and is 35 km away from Thalaserry. The large variety of animals such as deer, boar, bison, leopards etc and vegetation found here add to the overall ecological balance of the area. The central state farm is also located here which is famous for producing high yield hybrid coconut seeds.

Best Time to Visit
The months from October to June are the best months to visit the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary.

Climate
The annual rainfall that the sanctuary receives is about 3000 mm most of which is received in the month of June through August. The temperature at lower altitudes varies from 21 Celsius to 40 Celsius whereas the high altitude areas have their temperatures varying from 8 Celsius to 25 Celsius.
Sightseeing
Central State Farm
It is a 3060 hectare large farm that was started by the Government of India. It is an important centre for production of the high yield hybrid coconut seeds in the country.

Pythalmala
Pythalmala is located at the distance of 65 km from Kannur. It is a picturesque hill station popular among the tourists.

Kottiyoor Temple
Kottiyoor is a tiny town situated in the Kannur district which is also the site of a popular Shiva temple. The temple attracts the devout in large numbers.

Activities
The popular activities that you can undertake here are trekking, bird watching, wildlife viewing and if you can mix photography with all these activities, nothing like it because then you can choose to go through the experience time and again at your convenience.

How to Reach?
Iritty is the nearest town from Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary which is only 5 km away. At the distance of 113 km, Kozhikode is the nearest airport whereas the Thalaserry railway station is about 45 km away.
