The
Fort Kochi Beach is an amazing way to spend your vacations. It is a natural
harbour so you can very well imagine that the beauty of the place is also as
natural as it gets. It is a historical place which developed into a tourism
destination later on. This is one of those rarer places where lazing on the
beach goes hand in hand with taking a stroll in the fort nearby. The
vacations become even more enjoyable when the site of it is full of
historical significance.
As you walk towards the beach and come closer to the silver sands of the
place, you notice the fort which is the first European fort built in India.
It is also a delightful township and a haven for the tourists. The place has
emerged unscathed from the three invasions that of the Portuguese, the Dutch
and the British though the lifestyle of the place has become a blend of all
these influences that left their imprint on the place. On the beach itself,
you'll notice the pristine sands as well as the rows of the long fishing
boats which are an amazing sight in the backdrop of the setting sun. Then
there are these huge Chinese fishing nets that were brought by the traders
from the court of Kublai Khan.
Festivals at the Beach
The carnival at the beach is an annual event that we'd ask you not to miss.
The last week in the month of December is the time for a grand feast. The
spotlight of the carnival is the procession held on every new year's day
which is led by a beautifully decorated elephant. The beach is a popular
hang out among the tourists especially during the annual carnival. Various
clubs and organizations of the place participate in the carnival with great
fervour.
Activities at the Beach
A wide range of beach activities are available at the Fort Kochi Beach
where you can avail many options of water and beach sports activities.
Shopping Attractions
You'll have to move a little from the beach so that you can explore the
real potential of the place if you are a shopping aficionado. Shop to your
heart's content in the Broadway and M. G. Road and for more options you may
go to Mattancherry and Jew Street in Fort Kochi. Things that you can collect
from here include mementos, skillfully carved rose wood chairs and tables
and other artifacts. Spices of the place are also a collector's item
therefore you'll do well to pack your bags with them.
