Kappad Beach

This is more of a virgin beach type where calmness is a way of life. The country fishing boats that are strewn around here add to the virgin beauty of the place. The skyline here has not yet been dotted by the skyscrapers which gives you a chance to visit this unperturbed place and listen to the folklores and legends related to the history of the region. There is a pillar here which commemorates the event of arrival of Vasco Da Gama at the Kappad beach. Vasco da Gama's arrival here opened the sea route between Europe and India and soon Malabar turned into the gateway to the East. The event marked the beginning of a period when foreign powers vied among themselves to control the trade in Malabar area.

It is a pleasant and soothing beach which is known as Kappakadavu among the local population. There are rocks galore on the beach which create a pleasant sight when the waves hit the shores with unfailing regularity. The placid seas of Kappad beach gently accept the protruding rock that looks sprawling on the seas. The rock also has a temple on it which is believed to be about 800 years old. The beach is an oasis of sorts for the tourists who are thirsty for some fun filled moments.

You can also take to boat cruise in the nearby backwaters which will definitely add to your enjoyment at Kappad Beach. Sand castle building is also a popular beach activity among the tourists.

The nearby city Kozhikode is famous for its Halwa therefore we'd advise you not to miss the chance to taste it. The banana chips of the place are also famous among the tourists. The shopping area in Kozhikode which sees the most rush is the Sweet Meat Market.
