Once the capital of the powerful Zamorins and a prominent trade and
commerce centre, Kozhikode was the most important region of Malabar in the

sites, wildlife sanctuaries, rivers, hills, a unique culture and a warm,
friendly ambience make Kozhikode a popular destination.
Velliyamkallu
This is a massive rock situated 13km off the payyoli beach. The rock is
associated with the bravery of a local legend .Vellari mala is a beautiful
trekking location, close to the city.
Kappad Beach
This is the place where Vasco-da Gama set foot in india on 27th May 1498.
This landing has commemorated by a small stone monument at the beach.
Kadaludi Bird Sanctuary
Located 25 kms from Calicut,the bird sanctuary is a haven for migratory
birds.
Beypore
Beypore is an important port and harbour located 15 kms from Calicut.The
town has been renowned for ship buildings.The boat building yard here is
famous for the construction of the Uru (the Arabian trading vessel), which
boasts a tradition of over1500 years.
Kallai
Located six kms from Calicut, Kallai was one of the bustling centre of the
city timber trade.
Dolphin Point
Dolphin Point is a beach, 2kms from Calicut where dolphin frolic in the see
in the wee hours of the morn.
Kozikhode Beach
The beach is easily accessibile from the city and affords pleasant view of
the sun.
