Mananchira Square
Located inside Ansari Park, this place was the courtyard of the Zamorins Empire (Portuguese name for the Samoothiris). The park also has a palace tank built by King Mana-Vikrama, and a musical fountain. Every evening at 6.30 pm, the fountain operates to the beats of popular Hindi film songs.

Beypore
Beypore is an important port and fishing harbour at the mouth of the Chaliyar River, 10 km south of Kozhikode. The boat-building yard here is famous for the construction of country crafts called uru. All work in the shipyard is done by hand. An auto rickshaw charges Rs 75-80 for a round trip to the harbour. Kappad
About 16 km from Kozhikode, this is the historic beach where Vasco da Gama landed in 1498 with 170 men and three ships. The landscape has sprawling rock formations that jut out into the sea. There is also an ancient temple in the rock formation, which is believed to be 800 years old. The Kappad Beach Resort (Tel: 22 315) has an Ayurvedic Health Spa and also offers ayurvedic health holiday packages.

Thali Shiva Temple
The Thali Temple was the venue for the annual cultural event Revathy Pattathanam, during the Zamorin reign. Paintings depicting stories from the Vedas can be found in the temple. Unfortunately, the temple is out of bounds for non-Hindus.
