You already know about the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The landscape includes high mountain ranges, Western Ghats, Periyar Lake and the Wild Side Villa, an exciting homestay that gives you complete access to the captivating jungles of the region.

Location
The Wild Side Villa is a private homestay located just outside the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located at the Amalambika Road in Thekkady at Kerala. Kottayam is 100 km away from the homestay whereas Munnar and Madurai are 110 and 140 km away respectively.

Recreation and Sightseeing
Recreation
Recreation is definitely compulsory when you are Thekkady. The options before you are numerous and you'll have a hard time choosing the activities you'll spend your time on. Start with boating in the Periyar lake which will give you unbelievable views of the wildlife here that too from the safety of the boat. The other activities that you'll enjoy here are trekking, elephant ride, night trekking, jungle safari, cultural performances and at the end of it all, a rejuvenating ayurvedic oil massage.

Sightseeing
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
The place is set high in the ranges of Western Ghats and has a lake at the centre of it which makes the place all the more charming. It is also the permanent water source for the local wildlife here. It is a tiger reserve, however the tourists come here to see the Indian Elephants as well.

Kumily
The place is only 4 km away from Periyar, and is a growing town where the spice trade is the major occupation of the residents here.

Lodging
There is a main house in the homestay, along with two more independent cottages as well as a tree house all of which are appointed in the traditional Kerala style to give you a complete feel of the place. In all, there are four rooms with attached bathrooms. About 14 people can be accommodated in the villa at the same time.
