Shenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary



The Shenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 66 km from Kollam. It was established in 1984 and is a dwelling place to diverse species of wildlife and vegetation. The wildlife sanctuary has been named from an endemic species of tree found here, named Chenkuruny. It is an ideal place to hang around that offers a panoramic view of mesmerizing surroundings. According to some archaeologists, Shenduruny wildlife sanctuary was the cradle of one of the oldest river valley civilization in India (i.e. before 4400-3700 BC).

Climate
Blessed with pleasant climate, the sanctuary pulls thousands of freak outs from far away places. Moreover, lush greenery offering alluring sight seeings refill the energy level of the tourists.

Flora
The dense forest comprises of mixed deciduous flora species. It provides shelter to many wild animals and protects them. Travelers can explore the wildlife treasures while traveling deep inside the sanctuary.

Bird enthusiasts can watch varied avifauna species. Tourist Attractions
Apart from spotting varied wildlife species, the visitors can visit a heritage site (Cave), dating back to the Mesolithic era. It is located at the northwestern part of the Shenduruny river. The cave treasures some fascinating paintings of stone age (5210-4420 BC). Area covered by the cave is spacious enough to hold 20 people at a time. In the central region of the forest, an artificial lake is formed by the Parapper dam built across the Shenduruny river and Kulathupuzha river. The picturesque location of the lake mesmerizes the visitors.
