Programmes
River Retreat is blessed to be on the banks of Nila. The river which has
been virtually fired every poets and writers imagination. No wonder
then that Kalamandalam is situated near the river. The Retreat conducts
various cultural programmes to showcase the talent of the upcoming Kathakali
and Mohiniattam artists from the Kalamandalam. A way to show we care and
want our art forms to grow and thrive.
Places to Visit
Guruvar Lord Krishna Temple
Guruvayur, one of India's major hindu pilgrimage centres lies 32 km from
Thrissur. The Sree Krishna Temple, dedicated to lord Krishna, is renowned
for it's healing powers. Several offerings are made from the simple
'archana' to the elaborate 'udayastamana' pooja or the 'thulabaram' where
the devotee is weighed against offerings of banana, jaggery, sugar or
coconuts. It is also the site for several weddings and 'annaprasanam' the
first feeding ceremony of a child. As in most Kerala temples, non-hindus are
not allowed entry.
Peechi River Project
The Peechi dam site about 14 miles east of Trichur has developed into one
of the main tourist centres of the District . It is a beauty spot offering
ample scope for excursions and picnics . It was constructed with the object
of harnessing the waters of the Manali river.
Zoo
Trichur has a zoo, 2km from the town center. A variety of fauna like the
lion tailed macaque, sloth bear,elephant, species of birds and deer. The
snake part has a reptilian collection of King Cobras, Kraits, Vipers and Rat
Snakes.
Art Museum
Art Museum is in the Zoo compound. There are good collections of wood
carvings, metal sculptures and ancient jewelry. The Museum is open from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. on all working days except Mondays.
