Wagamon, which is also spelt as Vagamon is
one of the wonderful hill station. Perched at a height of 1100 m above the
sea level, on the Western Ghats, Wagamon hill station is one of the less
explored treasures of Kerala.
Located in the Idukki district of Kerala, Wagamon has a special
distinction. It is the most literate district of India. Apart from this,
Wagamon is also famous for its incredible natural charms. It seems to be
paradise on earth. Wagamon is surrounded by greenery of vast tea estates,
beautiful meadows, verdant valleys, lofty hills and cascading waterfalls

Wagamon
is an ideal destination for pleasant holiday away from the hustle and bustle
of the cities. It has a warm and friendly place with cool climate as the
temperature between 10 and 23 degree Celsius during a summer midday. The
three chain of hills-Thangal Hill, Murugan Hill and Kurisumala Hill
available in this region, gives an extra edge to Wagamon.
These three hills mark religious harmony and is a haven for trekkers in
South India. The place is also famous for its unique rock formations at
Thangal Para. Wagamon is also famed for the breeding centre of Kerala Live
Stock Board.
Location:
Wagamon town is located in Kottayam-Idukki border. It is located 25 Km away
from Erattupetta town and about 65 km from Kottayam. This hill station can
be easily accessible by all modes of communication. You can reach Wagamon
via Kottayam-Kumali road by taking a turn from Peerumedu. Also you can reach
there from Iddukki dam site. KSRTC operates bus services to Wagamon but it
is advisable if you have your own vehicle. Cochin International Airport is
the nearest airport while the closest railway station to Wagamon is
Kottayam.
Sightseeing
Kurisumala Ashram: Located in the heart of Sahyadri mountains,
Kurisamala Ashram is a perfect place for rejuvenation of mind, body and
soul. The place where the monks have been deeply involved in meditation is
situated on highest part of the land, called "Resurrection Garden"
This a natural fresh water lake is one of the rare reservoirs of water in
the district.The boating facilities, children's park, handicrafts &
spices emporium and fresh water aquarium are some of the attractions of this
place
Kurisumala Diary Farm: This dairy farm is managed by the monks of
Kurisumala Ashram. Milk and honey is produced in this dairy farm by which
the monks make their livelihood. Honey is found in the rocky clefts of
Kurisumala mountain, where bees make their hives. The famous breeding center
of Kerala, the Live Stock Board is located here.
Thangal Para: Thangal Para is famous for its peculiar rock
formations and a Indo-Swiss diary farm.
